"OT" John or anyone, I am having problems with the modem speed on a Thinkpad 600/E series. After having to apply a software patch to turn the modem from an x2 to a v.90 I still can only get a max modem speed of 44,000bps. On the same phone line my PC always gets 50,000bps. The IBM sales centre where the notebook was purchased tells me nothing is wrong and the phone support people are unable to handle my problem. According to my IBM salesman it is impossible to replace the modem on this model.

Any suggestions before I return this "Stinkpad" and buy a G3 instead?
