Rusty: Tx for the Deluge of Y2K Info

I just wanted to know whether SUN by chance had used 4 digits for the year when they first devised their Operating System. Apparently, not.

I agree with you, the hype is unbelievable - but is the perception.

I can understand if airlines don't fly on New Year's Eve, just because you never know and parachutes cost too much. I heard way back that KLM wasn't going to fly. It made sense. It's a Saturday, anyway and they won't loose seats because people will fly before or after.

My wife runs a tertiary institution in Hong Kong and the University Grants Committee makes them jump through hoops. What a waste. I tried to talk her into questioning the value, but she doesn't want to question the source of money.

Elevators: Who is going to use them at midnight ? Maybe the Sky Club on the 56th floor of the “Pan Am” Building - should they have a party (probably).

Well, on New Year's of 2000 it will be over.

Most of those programmers could have been doing something more useful. Like writing machine code so we don't need 12 MB wordprocessing programs 8-) Gosh, the old Tandy Model 100 (for which Bill Gates himself wrote the BASIC) had a dot command WP and a spreadsheet and the OS all in 32K of ROM. When you turned it on, you instantly were where you left it. Why don't they update this idea, maybe with 5 or 10 MB of ROM, 100 MB of RAM ? Wouldn't that be THE machine for 90 % of us ? Sell upgrade ROM chips to push in the socket like on the M 100.

Since the company is cautious in the near term, let's see how the street reacts. This same type of guidance has been given by INTC, MSFT and many others in the past during periods where the future was hard to "predict".

The key in my book is that SUNW is still showing 19% growth. Far too many companies in this industry have gone through periods where growth was stymied. This has not been the case with SUNW. Look around at their competition, then review SUNW. I rest my case.

Regardless of the short term price volatility, I still think this is one of the best bets in the industry.
