This was more than blank buying power, the top part of the quote/level II screen also did not work. Also shutting down and restarting didn't help. I tried that more than once before I read the email.

Are we saying that everyone who did not upgrade had this problem?

Colin, yes. This was a known problem and nothing to do with one's system RAM (I have 256MB and had the problem). It had to do with a software change that was made Tuesday night to a file that maintains balance information. They adjusted the structure of that file and adjusted both the server-side and client-side versions of RT so it could read the new structure. Unfortunately, the old version of RT choked when it tried to read the file because it didn't recognize the new structure.

I spoke at length with MB today and they acknowledge (a) they never should have 'rushed' in the software change (they never even tested it ) and (b) they should have better change control procedures in place; SOP is NOT to have all clients upgrade their software; SOP is you back out the server-side software and restore the old version until the client-side software can be distributed. They also acknowledged the notification problem and expressed a hope to improve on it in the future.

What I neglected to ask about is just who 'we' is. Townsend or MB? I don't think MB has RealTick programmers on staff.

"Are we saying that everyone who did not upgrade had this problem?"

i waited until late in the day today to upgrade. prior to uninstalling the old version and installing the new, everything was working fine for me.

i even called mbt this afternoon and asked if they were sure that i needed to install new software as my current version was operating okay.

i mention this not because it makes any difference to me, but because i've read where someone made the blanket statement that you either had the new version or you were sol.

:)

Same here Colin, I just popped another 128 chip in, now 256 and smooth as silk. Same with the new Explorer 5.
