One of AOL's stronger desire's for the next big play is the net telephone. You can bet any DD you do in this , will pay off.
Alcatel Rises on Report AOL Could Market Its Screen Phone

Paris, April 16 (Bloomberg) -- Alcatel SA shares rose as much as 7 percent on a report that Europe's No. 2 phone- equipment maker could market its screen phone in the U.S. with America Online, the No. 1 U.S. online service.

The report in the Wall Street Journal Europe said Alcatel is ''seen as a likely partner'' for AOL in its plans to unveil a series of Internet devices that don't require a personal computer. The shares rose as much as 7.4 euros to 125.3 euros and closed at 124.8 euros ($134.06) The report said Alcatel planned announcements on its screen phone in coming weeks.

A marketing agreement with AOL would give Alcatel the backing of a household name with more than 17 million members worldwide as it's trying to raise its profile in the U.S.

''This is good news,'' said Nicolas Voyer, a Natexis analyst who recommends that investors buy Alcatel shares. ''It shows the screen phone has a potential market in the U.S.''

Alcatel plans to start selling the screen phone, a telephone with a key board and a monitor, in September in the U.S. before unveiling it in other markets. Jean-Christophe Huertas, a spokesman, said he couldn't comment except to confirm the company is looking for partners to sell the product.

Alcatel shares also benefited from a report in French daily newspaper Le Monde that it had agreed with rival Matra Marconi Space to avoid competing against Matra for military contracts for satellites. Alcatel's Huertas also declined to comment on the report.
