This can be avoided by using limit orders which are lower than the ask price. I always
use this strategy, but with most brokers, a limit order means more commission !

I always use limit orders. DLJDirect does not charge more for limit orders but their commision is higher from the getgo than many discount brokers.

And of
course it also means that you may or may not get your fill. In a fast market, it means you
will NEVER get a fill.


Sometimes one is better off.
