OT:KLM ON THE SPOT FOR KILLING SQUIRRELS
Amersterdam, Netherlands

Ann apoligy from KLM Royal Dutch Aitlines has done little to quell public outrage over the airlines admission that it slaughtered 440 illegally imported squirrels in a shredding machine. KLM apologized Thursday for feeding the furry rodents live into an industrial meat -processing machine at Amersterdam's Schphol Airport, but said it had little choice after failing to find them a new home. The slaughter touched a nerve in the pet crazy Netherlands, where the population of nearly 16 million own 2.5 million cats, 1.4 million dogs and millions of hamsters and other animals. The squirrels, which arrived from AGCR's bio technology headquarters last week without proper identification en route to their new Greek headquarters, were purportedly to be used in running Y2K programs and Euro-conversion platforms.

Officials at AGCR declined to comment and referred all questions to thier IR guy.
