Intel Says Creative Technology Not Affected by Latest Products

Singapore, April 17 (Bloomberg) -- Intel Corp.'s new computer
microprocessors won't affect Creative Technology Ltd., the world's
biggest computer sound card maker, the Singapore Straits Times
newspaper reported, citing Intel Chief Executive Craig Barrett.
Creative and other card makers would add more capability to Intel's
products, and Intel's processors and sound and graphics cards could
co-exist, the paper quoted Barrett as saying. In August 1997, Creative
Chief Executive Sim Wong Hoo singled out the 1999 products of Intel,
the world's largest maker of chips for personal computers, as its
biggest upcoming threat.

Creative's shares have fallen 6.4 percent this year, compared with a 27 percent gain in the benchmark Straits Times Index, on concerns profit and sales would be hurt by economic problems in Asia and South America.
