I decided to do some checking on statements/comments by Pairgain or ECI re: the hoax. This is not a complete listing, but it's everything I could find (and not find) in the obvious places. The first comment by McBrayer was repeated in several articles, which aren't all shown here. The only statements which seem to rule out a PAIR/ECI deal are quotes attributed to McBrayer and to an ECI spokesperson. I could not find any official denial of the deal on either company's web site. If anyone can locate any other statements by or attributed to PAIR or ECI on the supposed deal, please post them to the thread. Thanks.

''We have not announced an agreement with ECI,'' stated Charles McBrayer, PairGain's chief financial officer.

"Bloomberg published its own story, denying the bogus feature and quoting an ECI spokesman as saying that company was not in talks to buy Pairgain. A Bloomberg spokeswoman declined to comment beyond what was written in Bloomberg's real story."

Todd said he then called PairGain Chief Financial Officer Charles McBrayer to clarify the situation.

"He told me there was absolutely no truth to it and he had no idea who put it out there," Todd said.
