MB,

thanks for lesson. Still more questions.

Do all "investors" pay the same commission to a discount broker like Discovery? When do they let you have a helicopter<g>? For the bartender who day trades 10 times a day, does he get a better rate than the housewife who trades 10 times a month?

I have no idea how or even if discounters get IPOs. I assume they don't get the hot ones.

Michael, E-Trade actually does get some fairly hot IPOs. Clients can only get a very limited number of shares though, typically.

For instance, theStreet.com is IPO'ing the week of 4/26. They gave 5000 of their 35,000 subscribers (randomly selected) the IPO opportunity at the offering price ($11-13). Only 100 shares. I was picked. What the hell. Should be good for a quick $2K to $5K at the open. These subscriber shares are only available though E-Trade. I'm sure they have the vast majority of the 5.5M offered shares going to big underwriting firm clients.
