Connection speed is such a flaky thing. It could very well be that both machines have the same or similar modems. With line noise, modem strings, software bugs, it could be so many things outside the box. Based on what I hear, getting 44k is pretty good, your friend getting 50k+ might be the exception rather than the rule. In either case, I'd like to get away from POTS as soon as possible, so I'm waiting for ADSL and /or cable to arrive in my area. Good luck, John
