Randy, you'll see lots of posts here about the obstacles facing anyone who wants to trade the Nasdaq with Datek during the first 30 minutes of the day. Just read back in the thread to get your fill of unhappy traders who can't place or cancel orders. Detailed strategies are pretty much limited to discerning whether the system is usable at all at this time of day.

If servers are working, hitting the bid is fastest, but only if Island is on the bid. Otherwise expect delays in execution reporting at this time of day, and likely in the execution itself. Becoming the inside ask keeps your order on Island when Island is not on the bid, which can be an advantage. The down side is someone has to accept your offer and buy your shares.
