Newly constructed gas fired power plants are the trend in Commonwealth Edison territory (Northern Illinois). Two nukes at Zion have been permanently shut down. And Edison's distribution line planing is providing for a lot of new gas-fired generators, some for full time and some for peak use. This trend will continue - in fact IMHO it is Edison's only plan to meet increasing demand. We are also well overdue for a normal winter, ie cold. Appreciate the intelligent posts on this board. While I'm holding now, Slider's ideas certainly look good in retrospect.
