My guess is the data port connects to an ethernet card for your laptop. That is about the best I can guess with the Sony digital data port. Either that; or they have some proprietary card you have to buy in addition for your laptop. I could see them do that too; get you spending more money on their stuff. Now that we talk about it; that was supposed to be the promise of digital PCS; a data link all in the digital realm. I would guess there is some speed limitation. I wonder what the maximum speed is that is supported on the PCS system. I have no idea what it is on the analog cellular system. Can it support 56k? Can PCS go higher? I figure if we talk about it enough; someone will post that knows more about these matters than I do. I currently don't know anyone using cellular telephone for internet access. Think of the cost to be connected all that time. You could burn up a lot of cellular minutes with the internet. Seems people mostly use it for email I would think. Ricochet on the other hand is something I'm very familar with because it is all through the DC area and many people use it here. It's a great deal and terrific for flexibility. Personally; I'm waiting for my cable modem promised by the end of the year or sooner. My brother is getting one in a couple weeks as his house is closer to the rollout than mine; but we are both with the same cable company.
