Bob,

I just found this article. Forgive me if it was already posted.

This is the paragraph that really caught my attention. I bet a GMGC announcement will follow soon. IMO

"Earlier in the day, Starfish Software, Inc. and Excite announced a joint relationship and a demonstrated Excite Planner, a free Internet-based organizer that will store calendars, contacts, tasks and memos and that is based on Starfish Software's TrueSync software"

IDG's DemoMobile 99 Offers Sneak Peak at the Future of Mobile Computing
CORONADO, Calif., April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- IDG's DemoMobile 99 conference today featured the first-ever public showings of new product concepts from IBM and Vadem that will have a profound impact on the future of mobile computing, according to conference organizers.

''IBM has in the past several years established itself as a leader in mobile computing with its highly regarded ThinkPad brand of computers,'' said Jim Forbes, producer of DemoMobile. ''Today, we're very excited to see new concepts from IBM that redefine mobile computing.''

John Karidis, an IBM Distinguished Engineer and inventor of IBM's ''butterfly'' keyboard, presented four product concepts:

* Chameleon -- a multi-function computer that is a cross between a notebook and a desktop computer with keyboard, touch screen and stylus input options designed for non-traditional spaces in the home such as the kitchen

* Monarch Butterfly -- an elegant, ergonomically designed computer that for the first time combines a 10.4'' screen with a full-size keyboard in an ultra-portable form factor

* CyberPhone -- a cell phone with an added module that includes a network computer with browser and ultra high resolution display with a slide out mirror that allows the phone user to view full-screen-equivalent Internet content in the palm of his or her hand

* WatchPad -- a futuristic high-resolution, ultra-slim, watch-sized VGA display with a simple touch screen interface

Dan Epel, senior vice president of Vadem, which has been a leading innovator in the design of mobile computers, presented three product concepts:

* NetRider -- a wireless mobile device that allows users to use pen technology to collaborate with fellow workers in real time

* Allegro -- a portfolio-style information appliance that combines a conventional paper-based notepad with a Windows CE device

* CE Tablet -- software that works with portable appliances and enables users to connect to their desktop computers remotely and gain access to full-power applications and information

Earlier in the day, Starfish Software, Inc. and Excite announced a joint relationship and a demonstrated Excite Planner, a free Internet-based organizer that will store calendars, contacts, tasks and memos and that is based on Starfish Software's TrueSync software.

In addition, Gary Elsasser, vice president of Toshiba America, and Jim Kardach, principal engineer with Intel's Mobile and Handheld Products Group, demonstrated Bluetooth technology, an emerging standard for mobile communications from Ericsson, IBM, Intel, Nokia and Toshiba. SPANworks, Inc. followed with a demonstration of SPANlink, wireless technology that allows users to instantly create or join networks and that will support the first Bluetooth notebook computers when they ship within the next year.

''I am delighted that so many leading and new companies in mobile computing chose DemoMobile as the premiere venue to discuss and show their upcoming products,'' said Chris Shipley, executive producer of DemoMobile. ''Thirty-three companies demonstrated new products to more than 350 attendees in an atmosphere of energy and excitement that parallels what is happening in mobile computing today.''

DemoMobile 99 took place April 11-13, 1999 at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort in Coronado, California.

Bob,

That was one of the more optimistic and realistic posts I've seen in a while. It actually mentions GM as part of the technology. Let's hope that GM signs some deals soon!

Thanks for the post.
