carolyn, i would recommend a high end e-machine for your purposes. i'd get their most powerful amd chip. they probably offer a 17" monitor, but check the specs (i like .25 dpi). they also might sell you an oem ms office for about $100.

if you want to know some auction places that where you can get better discounts on monitors or ms office 97, please pm me.

ps - my p133 notebook surfs the net fine. about as fast as my pii 300 tower. doublecheck you processing power requirements b/c you can save big $$$ by going for a slower processor. after all, you will probably upgrade in 3 years. this can save you $100+ alone.
