Then we looked for an excuse to start lobbing bombs, and we got it in the form of a statement from Mad Albright that the KLA had "chosen the path of peace". I think I'm going to puke.

Indeed, the situation would be comical if it weren't so serious. Essentially the proposed peace treaty was presented to the parties as a final, non-negotiable deal. Result?

1) Rejected by Yugoslavia
2) Rejected by Kosovo rebels

Albright didn't expect this. NATO had already indicated its willingness - even eagerness - to drop bombs on Serb targets if the agreement was signed by the Kosovo-Albanians. Despite this, the Albanians didn't sign.

At this point Albright was put in the bizzare position of begging the Albanians to allow NATO to destroy their enemies -- which, after some cajoling, they graciously permitted NATO to undertake. What a farce!
