Really OT. Your last OT warning. I apologize to the board and I promise no more of these for a year at least, but I feel that PM to strangers should be forbidden.

Ed,

Domestic economic issues such as you mention are not a priority. Domestic give away programs are the target of tax and spend name calling. Everyone wants a tax cut and that's how elections are won.

On the other hand, the United States has been entrusted by fate with the care of the world. We were given adequate but limited resources and a mix of cultures that carefully argues every last point. We have to pick our fights and our collective conscience struggles whenever we use force, but we have the courage to act.

In Kosovo and Serbia we will spend Billions to NOT kill civilians. Every bomb dropped breaks our heart. Occasionally, innocents just like you and me get killed. Slobodan has used human shields for years. They are all parents and children, sons and daughters, like you and me. There are always mother's hearts broken when people get killed in war, be it US soldiers, the enemy, or civilians. Murderers driven by a travesty of religion or innocent people, they are all human.

Humanity's global conscience will have the last word but many of us already know this terrible work must be done. (Big orchestral flourish <G>)

Ed, would you care to share with us your total charitable deductions (1040 Schedule A, Line 18) as a percentage of AGI (1040 Line 33)? Mine's 3.45% so I'm OK but not a total soft touch. I'm guessing you'd have to come in at over 5%.
