A little FYI...

I received shipping confirmation of my new iMac order yesterday from Apple. Order was placed with them on the first day of availability, the 14th, at which time I was told the computer I wanted hadn't even been manufactured yet. So, Apple's turnaround time looks to be pretty good. If it's really true that my order went to the manufacturing floor upon ordering (even if all they had to configure was a 96MB RAM upgrade), that seems to me to be a pretty well-oiled operation they have out there.

My bedroom is going to look like a tangerine iMac showroom for a couple weeks here!

Mark

Could an Open QT promote Web Object servers ? S & P uses W O now

Adam excellent post on the possibilities of QT .

Standard and Poors' site uses AAPL's Web Objects and semi-open QT should appeal to UNIX and NT site hosts:

" By allowing companies to modify QuickTime and easily include it in their own software or multimedia titles, Apple is hoping to drive rapid and wide acceptance of the newest version of the software.

" QuickTime 4.0 offers the ability to do live streaming, which allows content to be played while it is being downloaded, instead of making users wait until the transfer has finished.

Because the company is making parts of the technology available in the so-called open-source arena, the server version of the software that sends data to a user's computer can be modified to run on Windows NT and Unix servers, as well as on the Macintosh. "

Can't help but THINK we may hear of a Web Objects' server or two being sold along with or after QT .

Why wait for the DOJ ? (Q)Time to knife the baby knifer !
