cd,

Obviously their model doesn't include taking care of their own customers. Numerous horror stories are out there about how little E*trade takes care of its customers.

I read a recent article in Financial Times that said E*trades spends about $400 for each customer it obtains. Amazon $40. Ebay $12. Yet E*trade literally blows off its customers, presumably obtained at $400 each, with an atrocious, mystifying, unbelievably outrageous and incompetent "customer support" function.

The company has problems. What bothers me is their lack of attention to maintaining and supporting customers. It seems to me they are spending $400 to get a customer, and about $0 - not enough, to keep them.
