In the Eisenberg story:

"And maybe investors should treat it accordingly"

No, that would be a mistake. Because lunacy prevails for several e-tailers like AMZN, that is no reason for the madness to spread to Dell. There are two characteristics that Dell shares with the e-tailers. Eisenberg point out one of them: the efficient use of customer information. The other is, of course, the rapid conversion of sales into cash as measured by the CCC. However, the point of departure is that Dell is profitable while many of the others are not only not profitable, but are kept afloat only by virtue of the differentials in cash generating accounts (low A/R -- generally 0 days, and high A/P -- around 60 days).

Ultimately any business will be valued on the basis of its demonstrated economic profit, and the vast bulk of e-tailers thus far have shown no ability to generate profits.

Boy would that be wonderful, if investors, did treat DELL like AMZN, but they aren't now, and feel they will not later. Why you might ask? Because with AMZN you are buying the unknown potential, with DELL, the potential is known.
