CAWS had to clean up the balance sheet before they could get someone to buy them out. (Merril knew this and provided the quick financing and guided CAWS management into the world of bankruptcy.) We all knew this stock had the potential but we did not know the evil means that would be employed to get there. With a total wipe out of the old investors stock and a clean balance, MCI was very quick to pay real money for a potential that was always there. I suppose the smartest move would have been for CAWS to buy the rights and just sit on them until someone came along and bought it up.
