goldsnow,

Good post. The Serbians/Yugoslavians (it is important
to remember that Serbia is a multiethnic nation) are
puzzled by the reaction by the west to their attacks
on the Croats and Muslims. After all, the Croats were
allies of Hitler and even built a concentration camp
and executed hundreds of thousands of Serbs, Jews, Gypsies,
and other "untermenshen" for the Third Reich. The
Muslims were also supporters of the Axis and there was
even an "SS" division of Muslims in Bosnia. As far as
the Yugoslavian government is concerned, they are simply
finishing up what the allies failed to do at the end of
the Second World War.

Cetnicks and their leader Draza Mihailovic started the anti-Nazi resistance in Jugoslavia in 1942, and he was backed by King Peter in London. Up to late 1943 Chetnicks were the receiving
end of all allied support and were recognized as the official resistance.

Tito supported by Moscow was a comunist. He was a memeber of Comintern and lived in Moscow to avoid the arrest in Yugoslavia prior to war. He started the Communist Partisan movement and competed for territory with Draza. He was receiving aid from Moscow and after he met Churchill in 1944,he become the official reprenstive of allied forces. Draza Mihailovic was more and more isolated and often sold Tito's Partisans to Germans and Ustascha for arms. He participated with the Germans in the last grand offensive in 1944 to sack the entire Tito's army, and therefore his name and his movment, although started well, ende-up bad and the name Chetnik today in Jugoslavia means fascist!! He was finally hunted down in the mountains of Montenegro and killed in 1947.
