It's great to see Amazon.com getting involved in Internet auction. The more people get used to Internet auction the better for all companies involved. As soon as Amazon.com mentioned the word auction their shares jumped up US$22.75/share (Cdn.$34.35/share) on Friday. The report said this line of auction business is expected to generate US$20 million in sales for Amazon.com this year and US$65 million next year. It said the auction business is one of high margins. It just goes to show Internet auction is becoming quite a craze in the United States and the potential for the Internet auction business is awesome. Keep in mind, in a CNN-TV EBAY interview, it was mentioned auctions, classified ads, garage sales and flea markets were valued at US$100 billion. If you add up all the Internet auction companies' sales for last year, I doubt if they touched 1% of that US$100 billion (Cdn$150 billion) potential.
