I believe it was Mencken who said that to determine the IQ of a crowd, take the IQ of the lowest member, and divide by the number of people in the crowd. Something like that.

I think that is true. But there will always be people who will resist. Of course I am not sure how healthy it is to be one of those people. My father fought in WWII in the jungles. He saw men he had trained with (good ole' American apple pie boys) hacking off the noses and ears and genitals of Japanese they killed. It disturbed him for the rest of his life- as many other things he saw disturbed him. It is probably a deficit for a soldier to have a conscience.
