Stock should be up. How much is anyone's guess. I predict 2 bucks up.

It's good that the press release was relatively positive, since it
didn't bad-mouth Pfeiffer after all the great stuff he did from 1991 to 1996. It's only in the past 2 years that things have become questionable at CPQ.

This will allow, assuming a good CEO and CFO are hired, credibility to be restored to CPQ's name as all the channel stuffing, selling receivables, late and leaked preannouncements to be considered a thing of a previous mgmt.

Once a new CFO and CEO are named, new earnings estimates are made, some further restructurings announced (as new mgmt will want to start clean), and CPQ gets its message together (to Wall Street) and to its customers, gets its Web message clear,
then eventually we could return to the 40+ range (maybe in 2000). With the current mgmt, that would be almost impossible as no one would believe any EPS or guidance.

Whys1: How do you think the stock will react to this news tomorrow?

"Tenatively," I would hope. Aren't you just a little bit curious to find out what happened with the earnings???? Even with the butt bandits gone, how bad is it at CPQ?? Bad enough that we need to have "SuperCEO" to pull it together?? Is SuperCEO available?? How long will it take??

I would think that the other PC company stocks would respond positively, though, because it appears that the crummy quarter scenario was more CPQ specific.

JMO,

K

Take a look at what happened the last time Rosen intervened in 1991 - it was great news for the stock. It's a different company now, but Rosen has a great reputation, very high integrity and credibility on the street, and a lot of energy. I am delighted to see he hasn't lost the old fire.
