WavePhore Announces Software Suite for Internet Datacasting and Enhanced Television at the 1999 National Association of Broadcasters Convention The WavePhore Digital Broadcast Suite(TM) Enables Broadcasters to Create New Revenue Opportunities
PHOENIX, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- WavePhore, Inc. (Nasdaq: WAVO) announced today that it will introduce a new suite of applications -- which give broadcasters a cost-effective end-to-end solution for sending Internet data over analog and digital broadcast systems -- at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Exhibition (April 19-22). The WavePhore Digital Broadcast Suite includes tools to produce, schedule, manage, broadcast, receive and display digital content for distribution via VBI, digital TV, or IP multicast. WavePhore will demonstrate the capabilities of the system at the Las Vegas Convention Center (Skybox S-206) during the show.
The WavePhore Digital Broadcast Suite will be available directly from WavePhore and, as previously announced, will also be bundled with the DTV Encoding System from General Instrument Corporation (NYSE: GIC). General Instrument is the world leader in analog and digital systems that provide video, audio and high-speed Internet/data services over cable and satellite TV networks. Pricing for the WavePhore Digital Broadcast Suite begins at $49,500, depending upon the configuration and size of the network.
The WavePhore Digital Broadcast Suite is based upon the digital data delivery system behind WavePhore's WaveTop service. WaveTop provides users with multimedia programming, including news, sports, investment advice, shopping, children's programming and much more, supplied the Internet's leading content providers including USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The Weather Channel, Fox News, Warner Bros. Online, CBS SportsLine and many others. The WavePhore Digital Broadcast Suite greatly extends the market potential for WaveTop by addressing the television set-top box market.
"We are very pleased to offer the capabilities of the WavePhore Digital Broadcast Suite to broadcasters worldwide," said David E. Deeds, chairman, president and CEO of WavePhore, Inc. "WavePhore has been using these tools successfully for more than a year to operate the WaveTop service and we are confident that other information providers will find them as valuable as we do."
Using the WavePhore Digital Broadcast Suite, broadcasters will be able to configure their own localized digital content in addition to offering WaveTop's turnkey data service. Now digital broadcasters and content providers can offer an array of new and visually compelling services to their audience. Viewers will be able to access these services from their PCs or their TVs with next generation television set-top boxes. In addition to Internet content, broadcasters will have the ability to incorporate ATVEF-compliant enhanced television programming into their transmissions over terrestrial, cable, or satellite networks.
