Andreas,

Re: Rosen etc.

I think they key is the CEO.

I don't know Rose or Paesatori (?) but I would expect an internal choice and soon to keep continuity.

If they truly look outside for a CEO, this will add quiate a bit to the uncertainty.

I suspect the "knee jerk" reaction will be negative and present us a buying opportunity.

There is already the rotation out of hi-techs, and with CPQ's magins under pressure - I can see a lot of folks take a wait and see attitude.

Next few days will sure be interesting.

Regards,

Kash

My guys at ML deserve some credit!

Dear Thread, the following is a part of post on April 8, 1999. The relevant portion is near the end wherein I relate some insight form my broker regarding cpq management. I think the big boys sometimes know more than we give them credit for.

No. He didn't become retarded over night (referring to E.P.). Unfortunately, ep has not evolved as quickly as his competition and what is even worse, he is getting what one broker described as "old, soft and lazy". Another stated "the fire isn't there anymore" His sense of things was "E. P. appears to be getting tired of the daily grind. He is worth tens of millions and frankly he is at the point where he doesn't give a shit anymore but his ego refuses him to let go".

Shareholders of CPQ -Listen up! There is a real possibility that the drive which was a trade mark of cpq top management has all but disappeared. Management is aging. The guys at the helm only have 3/4 of their heart in this business. They are marking time and looking forward to the day to retire with tens of millions on the sunny warm beaches of their favorite resort.

I know you all want to hold on to the past - not unlike those octogenarians among us that still remember the last glory days of the British empire. Unfortunately, that was then and this is now! The rest of wall street understands what has happened to management why don't we??
