According to the "Jubilee 2000" pressure group campaigning for a huge debt write-off on the way into the new millennium, the debts of the 50 poorest countries top $350 billion.

U.S. and Canada say sales could be up to 10 million ounces, while Britain suggested gold sales worth one billion dollars and France says the scale of multilateral debt relief should be decided first, and the gold sales decided as a function of that.

John...so they forgive 350 billion $.... ok what's the point ever loaning
Money in the future just give it away.
Could this mean that the USA debt to the world could also be forgiven
my understanding is it could never be paid anyways.
I bet that should any IMF or Swiss gold be sold that it ends up in some central bank.
The US$ must be cheap stuff to be able to dump 350 billion but then again its all perceived value. Don't cost much to print up another 350
billion in paper.
