Was his name Brophy? That cat did a lot of development work on a 2000 yard "super sniper" gun in 50BMG.

That's the one where he shot the 12 year old Viet boy. the book is Marine Sniper well worth reading for some one with iron guts. Another book, much better, is Martin Russ, Last Parallel about ex tempore BAR sniping in Korea (among other things). The art of long-range sniping is profoundly American. At its best (as at King's Mountain or with Sergeant York), it approaches cold blooded murder. The victim seldom has a chance. It kills the bravest and the most careless of the enemy. It turns the best of our riflemen into killers who have regrets they can never overcome.
