Brian,

The unfortunate fact is that you may be right. I have a lot of friends, top-notch people, who work for Compaq. It is still an impressive company with a lot going for it. It seemed that over the past two years Pfeiffer was more concerned with hurting Dell than building Compaq. This may not have been the case in fact but it sure appeared to be so. You can't stay at the top very long with that sort of perspective.

The next question is, when will CPQ reach the point where it becomes an exciting investment opportunity? I have no doubt that it will turn around. It may do so as a much smaller company, though.

Brian and CPQ investors-Here is a statement from Briefing.com I saw on the CPQ thread. I may be taking their advice, but need to do a little more analysis (that probably means "procrastination")

For the second straight week, Compaq (CPQ) delivered stunning news over
the weekend... Last week, CPQ issued a nasty earnings warning... This week,
company announced the resignation of its CEO and CFO... CPQ has created
a three person committee to run the company until a permanent CEO is
named... Treasurer, Ben Wells, was named acting CFO... Though no official
reason was given, management shake-up generally perceived to be a result of
earnings disappointments, difficulty integrating Digital Equipment and lack of a
cohesive vision... While Briefing.com sees the turmoil as bad news, stock likely
to pop higher today on hopes that new management will get company back on
track... Would use news-related upticks to reduce exposure to stock... CPQ
due to release its earnings on Wednesday.
