DOG,

Re:"Maybe you would like to believe CPQ is a house of cards run by idiots. If so I think we have a basic difference of opinion. "

Now you know that came out of your fertile brain not mine. But it is interesting that you think that I may believe that CPQ executives and board of directors are idiots. I do not think they are idiots. However, it is clear that they have been a sleep at the wheel for some number of years.

rude,

Are you saying there was something wrong with their selection of EP in 1991? I think the record speaks for itself on the period 1991-1996. What exactly are you trying to say here?
Maybe you would like to believe CPQ is a house of cards run by idiots. If so I think we have a basic difference of opinion.

I agree with your assessment of Pfeiffer's record until 1996. He turned the company completely around, eliminating the price umbrella enjoyed by Dell and others and taking over top spot. He made the company lean and mean and competitive. To its credit, Dell responded to the challenge where many others faltered. The efficiency of Dell's build-to-order model was forced in a major way by Pfeiffer. I don't know what happened the past couple of years. I ceased to understand Compaq's business plan, that's for sure. Doesn't mean a company's bad if I don't understand it. I don't understand GE, IBM and many others.
