Indian Hotels Ltd to sell New York,Chicago properties.tata.com tata.com Indian Hotels to sell New York, Chicago property Our Corporate Bureau in Mumbai The Tata group hotel major, Indian Hotel company has decided to sell its New York-based Lexington Hotel to Shap Corporation for about Rs 450 crore. The Taj group recently signed a letter of intent with Shap Corporation to sell the shares of LexTaj Corporation--the company which owns and operates the Lexington Hotel. The Taj group will receive $105 million for its shares in LexTaj, and it has already been paid a non-refundable good faith payment of $3 million, sources said. Shap will be paying the Taj group an additional $3 million by April 22. The sale and purchase agreement will be executed on April 29, and the deal will be closed by June 15, the sources added. As for the group's Chicago property, Indian Hotels has received two bids for the purchase of the hotel. Sources said both the bids were locked at $47 million. For the Chicago hotel, the bid is for the assets of the company. Both the bidders are prepared to place $3 million as a non-refundable advance. The group is expected to take a decision by April 21. This transaction too is expected to be completed by June. Indian Hotels, the flagship the Taj group of hotels, had appointed Lazard Brothers to value its New York and Chicago hotels. The company is also looking for a joint venture with an international partner to manage and run the group's London-based St. James Court. Meanwhile, the company proposes to buy properties in South East Asia as part of its future growth strategy. Indian Hotels is restructuring its operations to become more product focused. Under the proposed structure, the company would split its operations into three profit centres, each headed by a chief operational officer. The three centres would be responsible for the company's luxury, leisure and business class of hotels respectively, notwithstanding the geographical location of the property. Earlier, the operations were split according to geographical regions.
