Thing is, Bay was much smaller than CPQ is, less complex, and I wonder if House was brought in to clean things up for the eventual sale of the company... I think CPQ will be looking for a high profile outsider. Funny, but HWP's Platt is on the way out so they are looking too. I also can't think of too many top guys that are available right now. Most other tech firms have been doing pretty well, so one problem in luring an industry veteran to CPQ is options. Other industry players would probably have to get CPQ to pay out big bucks to make up for options given up in making the move. One possibility is a high level manager that is not a CEO but that has a strong track record in building up a business that CPQ is in, such as IBM's Sam Palmisano, who is behind their services push. Anyone else have ideas???
