TUNA, Based on a phone conversation with Vivus a while back ago I was advised that the information obtained via the Freedom of Information Act went something like this: 9 million prescriptions written to 4 million men resulting in over 430 Viagra linked deaths. This does not mention any other "adverse" reactions such as heart attacks and fainting spells due to the hypotensive effects. Assuming a number of exactly 430 deaths on 4 million men who use(d) Viagra, I get a morbidity rate of one in 9,302. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT RATE???? THE VLAD SAYS F###### UNBELIEVABLE!!!! WHERE IS THE FDA WHEN WE NEED THEM TO PROTECT US FROM AN UNSAFE DRUG????

Then we ask him to reconsider after he's good and rested to reconsider posting in Vivus SI thread. We ask him that he disregard taunts by well-placed shorts and instead focus on the prize. The prize of course is a rethinking in the ED market of previously assumed positions on efficacy and safety of the main 2 drugs: MUSE and Viagra because this will ultimately affect the positions taken by Vivus long investors. First off as far as efficacy, it is clear that Viagra is not what it was supposed to be: In fact sales increase is flat: "PFE disappointed with news that sales of anti-impotence drug Viagra fell to $193 million, down 18 percent from fourth quarter 1998 revenues of $236 million. techstocks.com Secondly concern is now rising about its safety, which may be the 2nd reason why Viagra sales are declining. Here is from a recent Viagra review in Newsday by Kathleen Kerr " The largest concern, however, has been the132 men in the United States who died after taking the drug, as of November, according to the FDA……… ….As a result, the FDA ordered a labeling change for the drug noting that people with a history of heart attack, severely low blood pressure or other heart disease should be examined by a physician before using the pill……. ………Still, the FDA has refused Newsday's requests for more up-to-date figures on deaths and other adverse side effects associated with Viagra. It is the agency's policy, an FDA spokesman said, not to release those figures without a Freedom of Information request. Message 9139347 132 deaths from May 98 to Nov 98 extrapolates to an additional 86 cases from Dec 98 to April 99 for a total of 224 cases, or 4 deaths a week, as I predicted 1 year ago. And yet the FDA is stonewalling .,. That is now equal to the No of deaths caused by Posicor ( ROCHE ) which forced it's withdrawal. The question that Vivus investors need to ask is this: - how high will Vivus go on the day these new deaths are announced? - How high will Vivus go when sales take off as Urologists will be forced to prescribe a more effective and safe drug? Remember, last week Caterpillar recovered the entire decline of the previous 2 years . So when a stock like Vivus ( can we call it cyclical? <G> ) takes off, I think the rise can be pretty fast to > than 10 or 20 thanks to a nice short squeeze. So the key here is patience. The news of the deaths will be sudden and out of the blue. However the hand writing is now on the wall: Viagra sales dipping . This was not a good erection.
