Lycos will adopt experimental service from AOL

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- Internet search engine Lycos (lcos: news, msgs) will abandon its Internet directory and adopt an experimental one from ival Netscape, the Financial Times of London reported Monday. The directory at directory.netscape.com is edited and updated by the public. The so-called open-source directory has 9,000 people working on it, the newspaper reported. Netscape is owned by America Online (aol: news, msgs).
