FORE Systems' networking solutions include its award-winning asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology, which is a key network transport mechanism recommended by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Oracle Video Server operating on an SGI Origin2000 utilizes multiple OC-3c fiber connections to the ATM switch. Over 100 Element14 settop boxes connected via 25 Mbps ATM over UTP copper connections play MPEG- 2 encoded television programs. -- EMC Corporation (booth #L12105) -- EMC and FORE Systems are demonstrating automated program playout of television programs over an ATM network. EMC Enterprise Storage systems and software, under automation control, deliver multiple ATSC-compliant program streams via the ATM network to multiple distributed decoders, creating new distribution opportunities for station groups and program networks.
