Winspear third most active conference

Winspear Resources Ltd WSP

Mon 19 Apr 99
Week ended April 16th
by Stockwatch business reporter
Winspear was reviewed in Forum Watch last week. In an April 14
Bottom-Fishing Tracker, newsletter writer John Kaiser directed a blistering
condemnation against Winspear and Aber Resources for the legal dispute over
the Camsell Lake property. According to Mr. Kaiser, the legal jousting
amounts to nothing more than a "childish pissing match" between Aber's Ken
Hanna and Winspear's Randy Turner. Winspear appears to take the brunt of
Mr. Kaiser's displeasure: he suggests that Winspear's legal gambit is an
attempt to insulate the company's promotion from Aber's drag; that Winspear
"set a trap for Aber"; and that a Winspear win would have a chilling effect
on exploration.
The pace of the Winspear discussion has abated somewhat over the past week,
dropping the conference into third position. Many of the posts early in the
week were on the topic of the upcoming shareholders meeting and some of the
items on the agenda. "At least it gives threadsters another bone to chew on
besides the grade/value theme," Douglas wrote. As it turned out, many of
the posters had not yet received their information circular, although some
had accessed the documentation on the SEDAR site. There was some banter
about company insiders helping themselves to a nice serving of options and
other perks but the discussion returned to more familiar themes when Tom Z
posed a series of questions regarding geological issues and asked for
directions to Internet sites where further information could be obtained.
WillP and Jspec both offered some useful information and Teevee contributed
a couple of lengthy posts specifically addressing some of TomZ's geological
questions. The exchanges on April 10 and 11 are well worth a read.
The Winspear conference has gained a reputation for its useful and
generally balanced discussion, drawing a number of posters from other
sites. The conference has not been entirely free of wild rumours or
provocations. In an example of the latter, Phantom2000 wrote: "...you pack
of indefensible boobs, rouges and idiots are clueless as to simple first
year geology and expect others to believe your rhetoric based upon scripts
handed to you by WSP management. It is going to be a landmark turning point
in Canadian mining history when the whole goddamn pack of you criminals are
prosecuted for perpetrating fraud on the Internet." Cid and WillP had a
little fun with the post before conference participants let the provocation
slide. DiamondWillie wrote: "I think the best strategy to keep SW becoming
like SI is to totally ignore posters like Phantom." That appears to have
been the successful strategy adopted as the discussion returned to more
pertinent matters. Among the topics briefly raised were Winspear's
involvement in a European tour to promote VSE listed companies; the
proposed share structure of the Diamondex spin-off; and an informational
meeting to be attended by president Randy Turner in Calgary on April 21. In
a rare occurrence, no major themes were established during the week and
discussion fell off dramatically toward the end of the week. Winspear
closed out the week at $3.70.
