Network Magazine Announces Annual Product of the Year Awards

SAN FRANCISCO, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Network Magazine, the only monthly
magazine to cover computer networks, today announced the winners of its 12th
annual Product of the Year Awards.

As one of the longest running independent product awards in the
networking/IT field, Network Magazine's Product of the Year Awards are given
to those products that according to Editor-in-Chief, Steve Steinke, "matter
most to the readers -- the people who manage, administer and support
enterprise networks."

With no unsolicited input from vendors, the selection process is internal
and takes over three months to complete. The various editors of the magazine
were asked to look within their realms of expertise and come up with products
"that stand out from the surrounding landscape," says Steinke. "These choices
were then opened up for the group to scrutinize."

The number and types of categories have evolved over the years to keep up
with changing technology. This is probably best exemplified this year by the
expanded number of security awards, which is a result of the network becoming
so vital to the running of the enterprise: Firewall; Intrusion Monitoring;
Proxy Server; Public Key Infrastructure; Authentication; Anti-Virus; and VPN.

To qualify, Product of the Year winners had to ship during calendar year
1998. Network Magazines' product coverage is designed to "help network
managers be successful by not only delivering information about network
technology, product offerings and the competitive environment, but also by
paying constant attention to the business context that justifies any
investment in network infrastructure."

Award winners will be featured in the May issue of Network Magazine, which
goes out to over 204,000 network professionals. The awards themselves will be
given out May 12th during Networld + Interop, at a reception at the Bellagio
Hotel in Las Vegas.

The 1999 Network Magazine Product of the Year Winners are:

Ancor Offers Solution to Data Storage Crunch for Video and Film Markets at NAB

Company Signs Third Fibre Channel SAN Switch Deal for Post-Production Industry

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS 1999 CONFERENCE, LAS VEGAS, April 19, /PRNewswire/ -- Ancor Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: ANCR) will demonstrate a solution to the data storage crunch in the video and film industries at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention beginning here today. Ancor's GigWorks(TM) MKII Fibre Channel switches, the "engine" of storage-area networks (SANs), drive digital multimedia through each port at up to 100 megabytes per second, faster than any other storage technology on the market.

Video servers can quickly accumulate terabytes of stored digital video. Moving these files can be time consuming and clumsy in older SCSI or early Fibre Channel storage environments. Switched SANs alleviate these problems by providing multiple data paths, each with dedicated bandwidth, providing both high performance and redundancy to minimize downtime and maximize productivity. Moreover, because SANs are dedicated networks they do not burden LAN traffic.

At NAB, Ancor partner Prisa Networks integrated Ancor's own SAN demonstration at the Fibre Channel Community booth (S2059), in which HDTV data will be transferred between SGI(R) Octane/(R) systems and Ciprico and Storage Concepts RAIDs. Ancor partner Forefront Graphics integrated switches for SAN demonstrations by Matrox Electronic Systems (S4032) and Drastic Technologies (S1561).

In related news, Ancor today announced an agreement to provide its switches to MicroNet as part of MicroNet's SAN solution for video and pre-press applications. Ancor's switches already drive SANs from Prisa Networks and Forefront Graphics (Canada).

Ancor's GigWorks MKII switches break the traditional 128-device barrier for storage-area networks, supporting SANs of virtually unlimited size with added public loop support. In addition, only Ancor switches support secure hard zoning for data integrity and cross-connected configurations for larger and faster SANs that maximize productivity and minimize downtime.

GigWorks MKII switches will also drive SANs at the following booths at NAB: SGI (S3315), IBM Storage Systems (S2059), CLARiiON (S5141), ATTO Technology (S2059), Ciprico (S2444), Consan (S2059), and Thomson Broadcast (L18818).

Visit Ancor at the Fibre Channel Community's SANaganza, featuring more than 40 video application and Fibre Channel equipment manufacturers throughout the show. In addition, the Fibre Channel Association will host a seminar on April 21 from 2-5 p.m. in room N234/236 in the Las Vegas Convention Center featuring presentations by several SAN industry experts.

About Ancor Communications Ancor Communications, Inc. provides GigWorks(TM) high-performance Fibre Channel switches for storage and data-intensive network solutions, including storage-area networks (SANs). The company was the first to deliver a Fibre Channel switch, and the first to top the one-gigabit performance level. Ancor has OEM agreements to provide switches to Forefront Graphics, INRANGE Technologies, JNI (formerly Jaycor Networks), MicroNet, nStor, and Prisa Networks. Ancor is a member of the Fibre Channel Association, the Storage Networking Industry Alliance, the Fibre Channel Community, the ANSI Standards Committee, and the University of New Hampshire Fibre Channel Consortium to promote the advancement of Fibre Channel standards and interoperability. Micronet was at NAB......

MicroNet Booth #S9529

MicroNet's DataDock storage systems have long been known and used in the
video industry. MicroNet recently announced Genesis, a high-capacity Ultra
SCSI RAID storage system, with a FibreFlex bridge for Fibre Channel
connectivity. Genesis is available to complete a Fibre Channel SAN solution.
At NAB this year MicroNet is going to introduce Fibre Channel-native Genesis.
