The National Post reports in its Saturday, April 17, edition that Global
Thermoelectric stock tripled in value Friday after the company said it
agreed to help develop a fuel cell system for Delphi Automotive Systems. A
Bloomberg News dispatch to the National Post reports that Global
Thermoelectric, which had $9.1-million in revenue in the nine months ended
Dec. 31, is trying to develop a fuel cell that creates electricity and
leaves only water as a byproduct. Pacific International Securities analyst
Kevin Binnie says it's early days for Global and the stock is definitely
trading on a single piece of news. The paper says there are some
similarities with Ballard Power Systems, which is much further along in
developing a fuel cell for use in cars. Global had 15.9 million shares
outstanding at July 31, 1998. At the time, three directors owned 38 per
cent of the company.
