MPEG MovieMaker(TM) 200 Family Sets New Standard in Quality
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Optibase (Nasdaq: OBAS), a leading provider of digital video hardware and software for global markets, today announced the availability of the MPEG MovieMaker(TM) 200 family of MPEG-1 and -2 single-board video and audio encoders. This new generation of MPEG and Dolby Digital encoding hardware is the first single-board encoder to receive full Dolby approval.
Targeted toward the networking, post-production and DVD creation markets, the MPEG MovieMaker 200 family covers the entire audio and video encoding spectrum, from MPEG-1 to MPEG-2 Half D-1 to MPEG-2 Full D-1 encoding. Its video encoding circuit is based on the C - Cube DVxpert(TM) codec (encoder/decoder), which gives users the full benefit of real-time variable bit rate, lower delays and unsurpassed quality.
" C - Cube 's DVxpert provides superior MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 encoding at all bit rates, optimal storage and the lowest latency for end-to-end video applications. With our chip, Optibase gains a highly flexible platform for a wide range of video applications," said Bob Saffari, C - Cube 's director of marketing for broadcast/professional products, PC/Codec Division. "By offering a single board for MPEG video and Dolby audio, Optibase simplifies system design and enables new cost-efficiencies across markets."
Optibase was granted full approval by Dolby Laboratories, making MPEG MovieMaker 200 the first single-board video and audio encoder to be licensed by Dolby. Moreover, Optibase's MPEG MovieMaker 200 is also the first Dolby Digital encoder to provide for analog inputs, requiring no external A/D.
According to Rashmin Desai, licensing manager at Digital Technologies at Dolby Laboratories, "Dolby is pleased to grant certification to Optibase's MPEG MovieMaker 200. This new single-board encoder meets our high standards for audio, making Optibase the first company in the world to receive Dolby certification for an audio/video encoding board."
"We are very pleased with the full Dolby licensing of MPEG MovieMaker 200," said Yaniv Garty, vice president of Marketing and Business Development. "This unique single-board encoder also fits perfectly into our Customer First strategy, which allows customers to choose the encoding features they need and combine them with Optibase's offering of software packages, so that the package they buy is exactly suited to their application requirements."
For example, when controlled by MPEG ComMotion(TM) UDP, Optibase's digital video networking software, MPEG MovieMaker 200 boards become a sophisticated networking package that supports DVB and enables the transmission of video over digital networks, from IP multicasting over LAN and intranets to ATM and satellite networks. Applications developed with MPEG ComMotion UDP and MPEG MovieMaker 200 allow the creation and distribution of video content for distance learning, archiving, business TV and surveillance systems.
In addition, MPEG MovieMaker 200 boards can be used with MPEG Composer(TM) 200 encoding management applications, allowing creation of video content for different media, from CD to DVD titles.
System integrators who wish to develop custom applications based on the MPEG MovieMaker 200 boards can subscribe to Progression(TM), Optibase's develop support program, and benefit from specially developed software tools and software development kits.
The MPEG MovieMaker family is available immediately from Optibase and its international dealer network. Pricing for MPEG MovieMaker 200 starts at $6,995.
Optibase provides high-quality, cost-effective solutions that enable the preparation and delivery of MPEG-based digital video over ATM and IP-based networks. Based on the company's expertise in both MPEG and network technologies, Optibase has created a suite of products used in applications such as digital video archiving, distance learning, business television and content creation
