1. entire pc sector will do nothing for next 6 mos.
2. cpq already beaten down will not likely go down further.
3. other pc stocks have greater risk (ie. dell, ibm, hwp).
4. Rosen excellent interim guy.
5. Who cpq picks is important even though entire sector is
hving trouble because of unique cpq problems.
6. pc stocks dead money until last quarter.
7. would hold at this point not sell.

El: I thought we would see an initial pop, but I think CPQ will continue to base here (which is GOOD) for a while - perhaps until the new leadership is announced. If, as Rosen said, they had been thinking about dumping EP, maybe they do have someone in mind.

Just watched Danny Boy - he also said that he thinks that this is the bottom for CPQ. He said that he doesn't see the whole PC sector going anywhere for possibly the next six months due to competitive pricing pressures, the advent of free PCs with internet sign up and Y2K issues, however he does expect the industry to come back from the dead towards the end of the year. He said that he thought that Rosen would do an excellent job while they're looking for EP's replacement and that it's important for CPQ to find someone who can execute so that CPQ will be ready for the rebound in PC spending when it happens - he did say when, not if. Also, he didn't say anything about expecting more "big bad news" from CPQ.
