El: Just watched Renay SanMiguel now reporting from COMDEX and he said something which I think is very telling. He mentioned how CPQ doesn't have much of a presence at COMDEX and neither do the other hardware companies - HWP isn't there at all and DELL only has a small booth pushing its servers. He said that's mostly because the focus of COMDEX this time around is the internet and e-commerce. Well guess who's there with a vengeance?? IBM, that's who! Now if CPQ is trying to position itself as more than a boxmaker, where the hell are they????

Old *** Compaq I-Watch Market Commentary
CPQ -- Pers Computers - Technology 19-Apr-99 09:47:23 Investors appear cautiously optimistic about Compaq's management shake-up. The firm's CEO Eckard Pfiefer, and CFO, Earl Mason both resigned over the weekend. CPQ's board of directors formed a 3-man interim executive committee to oversee operations while the firm searches for a new CEO. The stock rose to $24 5/8 before sellers were lured to the market, effective capping the gains out of the gate. It's tough to say where the stock will end the day as we're only 10 minutes into the session. Investors may act more aggressively once we get more detailed plan from CPQ an in-depth analysis from the sell-side. However, early I-Watch indications on I-Watch show there are currently stronger indications stemming from sellers than bidders in the pre-trade institutional market. This suggests that CPQ's gains will be limited in the near-term.
