NOVELL ARMS CHANNEL WITH SOLUTIONS AND KNOWLEDGE TO ASSIST CUSTOMers
Novell Introduces Channel Academy, a Training Program to Help Its Channel

Partners Build Their Businesses

PROVO, Utah, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Novell(R), Inc. (Nasdaq: NOVL) today introduced the second phase of the Novell Channel Academy, Novell's largest-ever worldwide training initiative. The academy provides the sales and technical training Certified Novell Engineers (CNEs) and certified sales representatives need to meet the new certification requirements for PartnerNet99(TM). The Novell Channel Academy, offered at minimal to no cost, addresses the needs of the growing number of channel partners who are building successful businesses based on selling and servicing Novell solutions. The new training program further enhances resellers' ability to sell and support Novell Directory Services(R) (NDS(TM))-enabled solutions and Novell Internet-related services. Since its phase-one introduction in mid-March, this worldwide program has already certified 1,795 channel sales representatives. The program is achieving widespread success in 65 North American cities through an interactive satellite network, face-to-face seminars and self-study kits. Additional training opportunities have been provided in 30 European, 29 Asian and 14 Latin American cities. "The channel is a strategic asset to Novell because customers look to the channel as the point of integration. Knowledge is the foundation of all strong channel partners, and the Novell Channel Academy provides that foundation quickly and at a minimal cost," said Bill Wall, worldwide director of channel marketing at Novell. "Given the increasing demand for training on the latest Novell solutions such as BorderManager, GroupWise 5.5, NDS v. 8, NDS for NT 2.0 and NetWare 5, our channel partners need to get up-to-speed quickly on these enhancements so they can better service their customers."

Participants in PartnerNet99 and the Novell Channel Academy will be able to give customers superior solution recommendations and support for complex business technology issues, including Y2K preparation and security. If PartnerNet99 certification requirements are not met by July 1, 1999, they will be given the opportunity to rejoin at a later date. The Novell Channel Academy enables channel partners to quickly meet the PartnerNet99 knowledge requirements by providing access to improved sales and technical education. In addition, the program offers tools to drive adoption of NDS v. 8, NetWare 5 and NDS-enabled products such as BorderManager and ZENworks.

Immediate feedback indicates many channel partners are anticipating that extended knowledge of Novell's product family will lead to new business opportunities. "I am excited that Novell is offering this unique training program. Although I have been successfully selling Novell products for more than six years, in the past year I have seen a surge in interest for NDS and NetWare 5," said Garey Coonen, representing HighTower, Inc., a Novell Platinum reseller. "With the recent onslaught of directory-enabled products, there are more and more opportunities for new business. As a result, our sales and technical people have needed to refresh their knowledge. They now have a better understanding of Novell's latest solutions and the different ways in which they can facilitate better business for our existing customers and potential customers."

Breakthrough Training Methods

For the first time, Novell is able to reach thousands of channel sales representatives in one session through interactive satellite technology. For instance, some North American regions are taking advantage of the Novell Channel Academy via an interactive satellite network that is made possible by the use of Caliber Learning Network, an affiliate of Sylvan Learning Systems, Inc. Caliber Learning's interactive satellite network ties 43 cities in North America together and allows Novell to train up to 1,500 people in one session. ONTRACK EXPANDS REMOTE DATA RECOVERY(TM) SERVICE TO NOVELL(R) NETwaRE(R)Servers

First-of-its-Kind Service Provides Same-Day Recovery of Mission-Critical

Data in Server Environments

MINNEAPOLIS, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- ONTRACK Data International, Inc., (Nasdaq: ONDI), the world leader in data recovery services, today announced availability of Remote Data Recovery(TM) service for Novell(R) NetWare(R) servers. Expanding RDR(TM) services now allows companies using NetWare servers to quickly and cost-effectively recover from software-related data loss situations over a standard phone link. "Many times when users have problems with their server, they turn to back- up tapes to retrieve lost files. Unfortunately, the amount of data restored is directly related to the last time the system was backed up and the quality control that process," said Lee Lewis, president of Ontrack. "With Ontrack RDR services, NetWare server users can recover the most current mission-critical data cost-effectively, timely and accurately through their modem."

RDR is an exclusive patent-pending service that enables Ontrack engineers to recover a company's data via modem in a timely manner without the hassle of dismantling the computer. Within one hour of being notified of a data loss, Ontrack engineers can identify the problem and give users an estimated cost to retrieve the missing data. By using RDR services, data is recovered within a matter of hours, while a typical in-lab data recovery can take 2-5 days due to shipping time.

Ontrack announced the availability of RDR service for the Windows NT operating system earlier this year, expanding upon existing support for DOS and Windows based systems. Additional remote advancements supporting other operating systems and technologies are scheduled throughout the remainder of 1999. RDR services are available from Ontrack labs around the world. "Our goal is to provide fast and effective data recovery solutions for the entire spectrum of computer system users -- from simple do-it-yourself recoveries to complex operations for network administrators responsible for terabytes of mission-critical data," said Lewis. Lewis added that "remote recovery capabilities on Novell NetWare servers builds on our goal to provide a full spectrum of service levels to the broadest line of open systems across generations of machine platforms."

To obtain RDR service, users can contact Ontrack engineers 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 800-872-2599. Once a call has been made, Ontrack engineers work with users to determine if it is a remote or in-lab data recovery situation. To engage a remote recovery, users must have a modem, no obvious hardware problems with their computer, and access to the Internet via an alternative computer to download the RDR communications software.

Diagnostic fees for standard RDR services are $200 for NetWare server customers. Actual data recovery costs will vary depending on the individual situation.

Ontrack, the world leader in data recovery, specializes in services and software that help computer users access and recover their valuable data. Using hundreds of proprietary tools and techniques, Ontrack is able to recover lost or corrupted data from all operating systems and types of storage devices. Ontrack can be reached through its World Wide Web site at ontrack.com or by calling 800-872-2599 (612-937-5161). In addition to its Minneapolis headquarters, Ontrack operates data recovery centers in Los Angeles, San Jose, Washington, D.C., New York, Tokyo, London, Paris and Stuttgart.
