Scumbria

My apologies in advance, but as an outsider, I am not always familiar with all the personalities in the industry. Who is Dirk Meyer? Is he related somehow to Dirk Digler?

Undoubtably there are talented individuals at Intel, AMD, National/Cyrix and other Microprocessor houses. Unfortunately for AMD, a better processor (should that eventually occur in real life as opposed to thread postings) is only one of a large number of factors in predicting the success of a company and an investment. Arguably, at various points, Apple had a superior PC solution. But Apple was beset by poor management decisions which made whatever technical advantages Apple had of no consequence. Bad management trumps technical ability every time. I know that you feel that AMD has performed remarkably well. From a business point of view, the performance has been remarkable - remarkably poor the last few years. My own guess (and that's all we are all doing - guessing) is that AMD will quickly have to drop its K7 price to get OEMs to sign on. So whatever the performance of the K7, the profits from it not be what some on these threads hope. If that scenario comes to pass, what happened to EP will be a dress rehearsal for what will happen to Jerry in about 9 months - he will be put out to pasture rich and angry. And the investors will just be angry.

Good investing,
Burt
