I don't think one "merely" meets the whisper. It is not a failure to beat first call estimates. Also, there are -two- options if microsoft doesn't "merely" meet the whisper. It can miss OR it can -exceed-.

I don't think we really have a whisper number getting into the picture this time. We know the company did well--they already preannounced. The forward looking guidance is the key as far as I am concerned. I believe Maffei knows what has been happening in the market in relation the predictions of the end of PC era as we know. Just like the February conference call, i believe he will be positive on the health of the sector. I sure hope so since I also hold Intel and Gateway stock. In addition, he might also mention the revenue expected from Office2k upgrades---ie increase in estimates for the next quarter. BTW-I can't believe how options traders can handle the type of market especially if they are long. This is why I decided a while ago that I will not gamble on options in a big way. Being very disciplined like I had planned. Even in the money leaps are just a way to reduce my foreign content percentage in retirement accounts---I was tempted with more May calls but went back to my rules on options. The sharp drops in the stock are bad enough. I wish all call holders on MSFT the best of luck.
