The new day trader recruits need a day like today to learn the lesson that this is not a free lunch business. Professional equity traders have been in existence for centuries. The Wall Street market just gave the public a loaded gun. It doesn't mean they know how to use the gun though. It takes a lot of skill to be a successful trader. I hope most people haven't lost a fortune but I'm hoping today's action deters anyone from becoming a "day trader". The day trader has made real investing a dying art.

They take dives on a periodic basis, not necessarily on a 12 month cycle. You can look at the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX) on a weekly bar chart, for example, or another index that tracks the tech stocks, for an overall view. Also remember that 3 years ago, the "Internet Stocks" as they are called now, didn't factor into the mix. One analyst recently called CSCO an "old" tech stock.

Bob Brinker said over the weekend that tech stocks typically dip during summer, so we are a bit early for that.
