You mean there isn't an Apple Online Store for Australia?

There is now but it lagged the US by about a year. The machines are shipped from Singapore I think and can't be customized. There was a two year gap between Apple cutting the mass marketers and opening the online store. It's not surprising the mass marketers weren't doing a good job as Apple was charging rip off prices. When I came here in Oct 96 a 7600 cost over $A6000 which was about twice the US price at least. So I got a PowerComputing model for just over $A3000. Then they slashed prices to the US equivalent.

Is there an equivilent to Costco/Sams/Walmart there?

There is but the best option are chains like Harvey Norman that have about half their sales. According to press reports at the time Harvey Norman wanted to continue with the Mac but Apple cut them out. There are only "Apple Centres" There was another one in Canberra but it's closed down in the last couple of years.
