Somehow this reminds me of the disaster of a CEO that IBM had a few years back, John Akers. The replacement has worked out okay. Perhaps this time Rosen needs to look outside of CPQ so that he doesn't promote someone who is schooled in the old ways of CPQs business model.
(To my mind starting the small servers market was the last good idea that Compaq & Co. has had. They've been coasting ever since until the buying spree of the last couple years)

Michael Dell and Bill gates are obvious exceptions to this rule but off the top of my head I can't think of too many others.


Michael Dell still hasn't seen $40B, so my guess is the jury is still out there.
