I must admit to being a bit baffled. MSFT is trying hard to create some momentum, utilizing positive press releases, throwing out forward-looking comments here and there throughout the week, Bill's at Comdex sounding more optimistic than usual, WIndows 2000 didn't crash during the demo, nothing but positivity coming from the company itself, the trial is in recess. Yet we not only didn't get an earnings run-up, we got a collapse. I expect (hope?)many of the powerhouses including MSFT to rebound at least slightly tomorrow, as the bargain-hunters can't help but be drooling at the moment. I have to agree with taxman, however, that earnings of .37 or more will probably be needed to really get this stock moving again in the short term. And I think MSFT is capable of pulling off that big of a surprise. I also expect the cautionary rhetoric normally present in earnings releases to be toned down a bit what with the shaky market. The desire to manage expectations and the desire to shore up confidence in the stock and the company will no doubt be at odds.
