I thought the Prius (sp?) was a small internal combustion engine coupled to a generator, batteries, and electric motors to smooth out the running of the engine and to provide regenerative braking.

I think you're right. Sorry for my very poor understanding/description, and thanks for the clarification. Anyway, I believe it gets something like 75 mpg highway. I'd like to see one.
